Basics The Match Type Overwatch is a team-based 6v6 shooter. Before you start shooting holes into everything, you have to select a match type. If you are an achievement or trophy hunter, stick with quick play or competitive. It is important to know that in quick play you cannot switch roles! Either attack or defend. So choose wisely. Now pick your hero. The bottom right corner will give you an idea of what your team is missing for some more oomph. If you are new to this game, its best to listen to the game and build a balanced team for best success. There are four types of heroes: Attack - these are the ones, that deal the most short range damage. Tank - focuses on being in the way and taking hits for the team. Defense - can hold position best against damage Support - training strength for function. These are good to use as healers etc Playing the Match Have fun, kick some butt, and fulfill objectives. Post Game Let's see how well you played, maybe you got a reward? You can also vote for the best player. This is more of a social feture, as it is not affecting any throphies. Game Modes and Maps Overwatch has four different game modes: Assault, Escort, Control, and Assault/Escort. Each one has 3 available maps to discover. Assault If you are an attacker in this mode, your job is to capture a string of objects. When one is captured, the next is up for grabs. Defenders attempt to hold them off until time runs out. The maps are: Temple of Anubis (Egypt), Hanamura (Japan), and Volskaya Industries (Russia). As attackers, you need tanks to help get you to where the fight is at. With all the chokepoints on these maps, its easy for the defends to get you stuck. But with a tank you can shield your way past them. Otherwise mobility and high damage is where victory is at. As defenders, setting up turrets and traps in hotspots is the mone maker. Tanks are useful to block attackers into choke points where they can be easily overpowered. Stick with defensive hero's and tanks and you should be good to go. Escort This is exactly what it sounds like. I'd you are the attacker, you are watching that your payload gets to a sertain objective. The more attackers are near the payload, the faster it moves. As defenders you are trying to deny delievery. Defenders can push the payload back by fighting near it. This also works when there is no attackers, but is crawlingly slow. Once the attackers push the object past the checkpoint it can not be pushed back. The maps are Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Dorado (Mexico), and Route 66 (USA). As attackers, you'll need a balanced team. Offense heroes will take out the enemy defense heroes and generally disrupt the enemy team. Tank heroes are especially efficient at pushing the payload. Reinhardt's shield is extremely useful, for instance, as many allies can hide behind it to push the payload safely. Defense heroes can also be easy. Turrets can be placed on top of the payload as passive defends. If you take a minute to plan, you will be more successful. As defenders, the most imortart point is "you shall not pass"!. Force them to abandon the object and tie them up in fight. Any hero's will do here, as long as you keep the attackers from pushing forward. Control Now there is only attackers and attackers as 3ach team fights to capture a neutral point. As one team controls it, they increase their score (represented by a percentage). At 100%, the round ends. The match runs best two out of three and cycles between two control points on each map. The maps are: King's Row (UK), Numbani, and Hollywood. Character progress Afterm eachieve match your get a bunchanged of different rewards. Here comes your XP and Medals. You'll also have the opportunity to vote on cards. Cards are given to players who did enormously well in a match. Each player can vote on the card they feel is most impressive. If a player gets 5 votes, then they get an epic card. If they get 10 votes, they get a legendary card. Ofcourse you can vote for yourself. There is no way to influence getting a card, other than doing your best. Medals are earned by doing the best at specific things on your team depending on the gametype, such as most eliminations or most healing. You can check your progress in-game by holding cn_back to see where you stand. The top 3 in each category will earn a medal. A healing metal seems to be the easiest to come by. XP will level you up. Here is an overview of what you get: -4 XP every second you are active in a game -highest medal earned in a match 150 XP for gold, 100 for silver, and 50 for bronze (Only once per match notater the number of medals) -250 XP for playing the match; -250 XP for winning the match; -1500 XP for your first win of the day; -20% XP bonus if you're playing with your party. If you quite a game, you earn no XP at all, and you will get punished with lower XP for coming matches.
